Before releasing his 2008 full-length debut, White Van Music, Seattle producer Jake One had already established himself as a legendary beat-maker. After over a decade’s worth of producing dozens of hits and certified classics for others, like De La Soul's "Rock Co.Kane Flow" (feat. MF DOOM), 50 Cent's "All Of Me" (feat. Mary J. Blige), John Cena's iconic WWE entrance theme "The Time Is Now" and more, he was ready to step to the forefront and release his own project.
White Van Music featured an engaging and eclectic mix of the era's emerging Hip Hop artists alongside some of its most respected mainstream acts, including MF DOOM, Prodigy, Alchemist, Little Brother, Casual, M.O.P, Royce Da 5'9", Evidence, Posdnuos (of De La Soul), Brother Ali, Elzhi, Slug (of Atmosphere), Young Buck, and many more. The hand-selected guests and unique pairings over custom musical soundscapes all came together to reflect Jake's distinctive tastes and attention to detail. As a result, the album blurred the so-called lines that once existed between underground and mainstream rap, helping the world start to see a need to rewrite the rules, just as Jake One always had.
